Cashless: with or without an internet connection?
Good news: with Wilout, an internet connection is not a requirement to deploy your cashless solution at your event. Whether you're in a warehouse, a field, an outdoor festival or a village hall, payment processing works.
But the quality of your connection radically changes what you can do — and what you can monitor — during your event. Here's the difference between the two modes.
Cashless with Wi-Fi or 4G/5G connection
A stable connection transforms your cashless solution into a real-time event management tool. Here's what you gain in practice:
- Live sales tracking: View your transactions, revenue, and consumption trends in real time from your back-office. Anticipate stock shortages, reallocate your staff, and make informed decisions without waiting for the event to end.
- Online top-up for your attendees: Your attendees can top up their cashless account from their smartphone at any time. The result: fewer queues at physical reloading stations, a better customer experience, and revenue that keeps growing between visits to stands.
- Blacklist and maximum security: In the event of a lost or stolen wristband or NFC card, you can block it instantly and remotely. The attendee's balance is protected, and the system remains secure for everyone.
- Instant price and product synchronisation: Any change to your catalogue or pricing is reflected in real time across all your sales terminals. No more pricing errors or inconsistencies between points of sale.
Cashless without internet connection (offline mode)
No Wi-Fi? No problem. Wilout is built to work offline. Transactions are validated and recorded locally on each terminal, with no interruption to your operations.
However, this mode has important limitations you should know about before your event:
- No real-time tracking: Sales data is stored locally. You cannot access your central dashboard during the event. A full analysis of your activity is only available after synchronisation.
- Mandatory synchronisation after the event: To consolidate your revenue and get a complete report, you must connect your terminals to the internet after the event. This step is essential to validate all transactions.
- Unable to block a lost or stolen wristband: Without a connection, the blacklist feature cannot be activated. In case of loss or theft, the balance remains accessible until the terminals reconnect.
What does Wilout recommend?
To get the most out of your cashless solution — fully featured, secure, and manageable in real time — we strongly recommend providing a stable internet connection at your event: dedicated Wi-Fi, a 4G/5G hotspot, or a boosted mobile network.
But whatever your situation, Wilout adapts. Even in the face of an unexpected outage, your payment processing never stops. That's the promise of a solution built for the field, by people who understand the realities of live events.
